□ On Apr. 3, the Overseas Koreans Agency (OKA; Commissioner Lee Key-cheol) held a briefing session via video call on the tailored integrated civil service as part of its efforts to improve the convenience of civil service for overseas Koreans.

ㅇ As part of the 1st Overseas Korean Policy Basic Plan to implement “convenient living support for overseas Koreans,” OKA plans to provide various tailored integrated civil service to overseas Koreans in each region starting this year.

ㅇ The Service Support Center for Overseas Koreans (Director Kim Yeon-sik) first held a video call with overseas Koreans living in Japan, including areas of Kobe, Yokohama, and Hiroshima, to explain the nationality, military service, and family relations service, followed by a Q&A session.

ㅇ Japanese interpretation service was provided during the briefing session for those who are not fluent in Korean, and officials from the Japanese Embassy in Korea were invited to this meeting as well.

ㅇ This briefing session on tailored integrated civil service went one step further than the civil service usually provided through the counter of diplomatic missions; it is significant in that OKA met directly with overseas Koreans and provided explanations on the related areas as well as answered their questions.

☐ Director Kim Yeon-sik said, “Starting with this integrated civil service in Japan, we will provide closer and more professional services to overseas Koreans anytime, anywhere.”

ㅇ He added, “In addition to this briefing session, overseas Koreans can always conveniently receive phone and KakaoTalk consultation services in five languages (Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese, and Russian) via Overseas Koreans 365 Civil Service Call Center (+82-2-6747-0404). The connection with the home country will be further strengthened through the tailored civil complaint service.”

☐ Starting this year, OKA plans to provide tailored integrated civil service via video call at all times and, when necessary, provide in-person integrated civil service to overseas diplomatic missions.

ㅇ In addition, it plans to discover and improve various tasks, such as simplifying the online complaint process so that overseas Koreans can receive streamlined civil service, as well as providing service support by visiting the site in person when necessary.
